The ‘Farrago’ drawing series have a semiotic
approach sketching a visual system built from
urban symbols, objects, colors, and fragments
of language in advertisement sometimes based
on gender.
This series uses logo’s (that already are an ab-
straction), clothes, and hybrid forms from older
and contemporary consumer culture to treat
fashion and design as a graphic system of desire
and repetition.
Shoes and bags operate as signs rather than
functional items, slipping between product,
symbol, and container, exposing how an artifi-
cial consumerism appetite is produced through
mislabeling and visual codes.
The Carrier Painting series are bag objects that play with formats of flattened shopping bags from Ines’ personal collection used for their pictural qualities in a collage sort of way. Some of her self-published Claus Books are also available in the footnote bookstore.
